  • CHIRLA has been serving and protecting the immigrant community since 1986. Key services include:

    • Running LA Rapid Response Network which connects immigrants facing detention and deportation to legal representation.

    • Running the EMPLEO (Employment, Education & Outreach) assistance line to provide Spanish-speaking workers the means to report wage theft, harassment and unsafe working conditions.

    • Connecting low-wage workers, including day laborers, street vendors, and domestic workers with legal representation

  • In August 2020, CANMN was formed from the merged efforts of three volunteer-run mutual aid sites in the Whittier and Uptown neighborhoods: The People’s Library Mutual Aid at MCAD, Pimento Relief Services, and Provision Community Restaurant.

    • Currently serving between 200-300 families each week with free food, diapers and supplies, distributing 1,000 items every distribution day.
